The Torpedoes scored plenty of goals at Sandhurst today in a great team effort.

The Torpedoes produced a great team performance today, especially in the first half where their fluent passing and fast movement was excellent to watch. The boys scored many goals but the defence was major highlight in the way that they kept a tricky Sandhurst team at bay. Jamie was again tested, but proved too good a keeper to be beaten. As for the goals the plan of tight defence and keeping to positions went out of the window as defender Tom not once but twice strolled through the whole of the opposition to score two nearly identical brilliant solo goals. Going into half time 0-4 up.

However, the choice of the goals was the way Josh chipped the ball up for himself before volleying home an unstoppable shot to complete his hat-trick. Sandhurst made the score more respectable with a well taken goal, and a couple of weird own goals also added to their tally, but the Torpedoes where never in serious trouble and were worthy winners in a match that the form book said should have been much closer.

After last weeks heroics it was back down to earth again today.

First half.

Creating loads of chances but failing to take what might have been a confidence boosting lead the Torpedoes then went behind to a wonder strike from the Ascot forward. You could only watch and admire as an unstoppable shot found the top corner. Still the Torpedoes heads did not drop and they continued to play good football and were worthy of their equaliser as Billy's shot went through a crowd of players into the net. For the first time in this fixture the Torpedoes thought they had a chance, and were unlucky not to go in at half time in the lead as a shot smacked against the post.

Second half.

Early Torpedoes pressure forced a corner, but with too many players committed forward Ascot broke at speed and retook the lead. This was a massive blow for the Torpedoes, but worse was to follow as the Ascot winger weaved his way through the whole team to score a brilliant solo goal. Despite this the boys still created many more chances but could not put any end product to their good approach play. A little bit of frustration crept in and some tackles were a bit borderline. A rather harsh penalty rubbed salt into the wounds, but by then the better team had won the game. Well played Ascot Royals.

To win against a top side like Ascot the boys needed to make more of their chances. The positive thing was that we created more chances than Ascot, but they converted nearly all of theirs, and we didn't. Also in this fixture we never seem to get that magic ingredient ........ a little bit of luck !

Meeting the current league leaders with half the team still recovering from a cross country run, a huge pitch, only seven players, no subs...... all the excuses were available but none were needed.  We had 'a plan.'

First Half

Before the game the boys were given a team talk which centred around 'the plan'.  From the start you could see the attitude was completely focused on what was needed to be done. The Torpedoes forced the play down the Finch end and had several chances before Josh struck the ball home from a well taken corner by Billy. One nil up but still 50 minutes to play. "Keep to the plan" was the instruction from the touchline. More chances followed but the elusive second goal was proving hard to find, chance after chance went begging and the boys were beginning to tire as their early exertions started to catch up with them. Brilliant defending from Louie and especially Adriano kept Finch at bay. The midfield of Josh, Billy and Michael worked tirelessly both in defence and attack, the half time whistle went just in time as all the players were running on empty.

Second Half

The short break was just what the boys needed and refreshed they pushed forward just failing to increase the lead on a couple of occasions. Finch were now looking the stronger side and a couple of great saves from Jamie kept the Torpedoes' lead intact. "Remember the plan" was shouted from touchline. Seb was doing a fantastic job up front, holding up play so his midfield support could arrive.  Billy had a good chance, Michael shot just wide, Seb had a one on one that just missed. The Torpedoes were creating and missing so many chances the nagging fear was to lose a game they were dominating. The Torpedoes now started to slow the game down, running the ball wide and into the corners, they were so near to victory. Still Adriano and Louie had to be at their defensive best and Billy and Michael made last ditch clearances off the line. "Stick to the plan" was the touchline command. The final whistle went and the boys were so exhausted they didn't seem to have the energy to celebrate. The boys had been magnificent, everyone played their part in a team effort to deservedly win the game.

After the match a few parents asked the boys - "What was the Plan" ?   ..... brief silence...... "dunno"!

Man of the Match - All of them for an outstanding performance

Binfield Torpedoes vs Bracknell Town Junior Pumas 08/11/08

Binfield Torpedoes 3 - 3 Bracknell Town Junior Pumas.

9.00 kick off.   Saturday 8th Nov 2008.

Venue : Stubbs Lane.  League Match.

Conditions : Rain.

Attendance - 18.

Binfield Players : Adriano, Billy, Jamie, Josh,  Louie, Michael, Seb, Tom.

The early start and rain kept the attendance down this morning.  Good job so many Mums were missing, they did not have to witness what there 'little angels' were capable of!  This was a tough match not for the faint hearted, one for after the watershed.

First Half.

The Torpedoes had the better of the first half, going ahead through a good strike from Billy, only for the goal to be equalized as the Torpedoes defenders could not decide amongst themselves who should clear the ball, so the Bracknell forward took charge and smashed the ball home. Despite the set back the Torpedoes were playing good football and went ahead again as Josh headed in a corner from Michael. A great solo run from Tom set up a goal for Seb and the Torpedoes looked good value for their lead. The last five minutes of the first half were a warning sign that Bracknell had by no way given up the game, and only two great saves from Jamie kept the lead intact.

Second Half.

The Torpedoes started the second half really well but could not increase their goal tally. Bracknell were very fast on the break and the danger signs were evident long before they clawed a goal back. A little bit of panic set in and the Torpedoes were put under concerted pressure. Towards the end of the match Bracknell eventually equalized, and the game ended just in time as the tension on and off the pitch reached boiling point.

Man of the Match - Billy.

Goals - Billy, Josh, Seb.
